Hysterosalpingography is mainly used in women who have been trying to get pregnant but has been unsuccessful or been having repeated miscarriages. It is used to check the shape and health of the uterus and to evaluate if the fallopian tubes are blocked or malformed in any way. Fluoroscopy (a special type of X-ray) is used for the same.
When you schedule your x-ray, you will receive detailed instructions on how to prepare. For example, you cannot have the test done if you have pelvic infection or untreated STD.
The doctors will recommend you a good time to perform the test for example 10 days after the first day of the beginning of your periods or so.
You will be instructed to take medications before the X-ray in case you feel any discomfort in the test.
Women should tell their doctors if there is any chance they may be pregnant. Wear comfortable clothing and avoid jewellery or any other metal on the body.
Inform if you have an intrauterine device (IUD) inserted for pregnancy prevention.
You will lie on a padded table and spread your legs so that the doctor can clean the cervix and insert a tube.
Then a series of images are generated. It’s important that you stay very still and hold your breath for a few seconds during the time which the image is obtained.
X-ray will be taken from various positions so you may also be asked to be in different positions for different angles.
Your entire current medical file and prescription set to be aware of your medical conditions and any sort of allergies..
Serum Creatinine reports(not older than 4 weeks) are required to check for the health of your kidneys in case we need to use contrast media to get better images during the scan. The values help us decide on the type of contrast media to be used.
